Preparing a pot of rice for dinner is almost automatic. But plain rice can get a little boring overnight, don’t you think? There are three tricks to give your rice extra flavor. Here you will find tips and tricks on how to preserve the flavor of rice.
Easy Fried Rice Recipe (classic Vegetable Fried Rice!)
Toasting dry rice grains in a little butter or olive oil before adding water brings out their flavor and adds a fantastic nutty flavor to the finished dish. I especially love making this with brown rice and other whole grains like farro and barley.
This goes without saying, as long as you have extra supplies on hand! If not, I add a little chicken or vegetable broth. I sometimes find that using 100% chicken broth can make the rice rubbery or overly starchy – I personally prefer a 50/50 mix of broth and water. This adds a layer of flavor and richness without being over the top.
Any aromatic herb or vegetable adds a lot of intrigue to a simple pot of rice. Very often, the same spices are also perfect as a main course with rice. I’ve found that whole spices work better for adding subtle flavors, while ground spices are great if you want the rice to really stand out.
I almost always add a bay leaf, regardless of what I’m cooking as a main course. The bay leaves give the dish a slightly woody, herbal flavor that goes well with the flavors of the curry as well as a plate of roasted vegetables.

Depending on what I’m cooking, I add more flavors. Cardamom and coriander seeds work well when rice accompanies Indian or Southeast Asian dishes. If I have it, I also add a little lemongrass or ginger. A bit of kombu in cooked rice is a nice touch in Chinese and Japanese dishes, and cumin seeds and even cinnamon work well in Southwestern and Mexican dishes. Long grain white rice: Long grain white rice works best for this recipe. However, jasmine rice, basmati rice or long-grain brown rice will also work. Long-grain white rice works best because it doesn’t stick together. The end result is easily fluffed with a fork and has a delicious, light and fluffy texture.
Butter: Butter is one of my favorite flavoring ingredients. It adds a delicious flavor to the dish. I prefer butter over oil because it is tastier than oil.
Herbs and spices: Rice seasoning gives this side dish the finishing touch. Parsley adds an earthy flavor, while garlic powder and onion add a spicy kick. Sea salt enhances all flavors and brings out their best properties. Black pepper gives this rice dish a bolder flavor. Thyme is one of my favorite savory flavors and really enhances simple things like rice and potatoes. Its taste is almost similar to rosemary and it is so delicious. All these spices together create the perfect mixture for seasoning white rice.
Chicken Broth: Adding chicken broth to rice is so good and delicious. Using chicken broth instead of water as the cooking liquid allows you to season the rice from the inside while cooking. Turns long grain white rice from boring to delicious! Everyone at the table will wonder how you did it.
How To Make Thai Sticky Rice (so It’s Fluffy And Moist)
First, rinse the rice thoroughly in a fine-mesh sieve under cold running water. Continue rinsing the rice until the water runs clear. Heat a medium pot, then add the butter and wait until it melts. Pour the chicken broth into the butter mixture, then increase the heat and bring to a boil.
Add rice and mix. Place the lid on the pot and reduce the heat. Cook over low heat without opening the lid until the broth is completely absorbed.
