There is no shortage of advice on how to improve metabolism. In fact, entire industries have sprung up to provide information on how to trick our bodies into burning calories faster. But here’s the sad truth: everything you do can have a small impact on your credit score.
Best Metabolism Boosting Foods You Must Add To Your Diet
“There’s not a lot of research that supports what’s out there,” said Dr. Rajesh K. Garg, an endocrinologist at the University of Miami Health System. “Of course there are some better groups with some features, but these are soft.”
Your metabolism isn’t something you can turn on – or speed up – like a car. How your body converts food into energy depends largely on your genes. Blame your parents if you gain weight just by looking at a cookie, while your best friend can down two donuts with no measurable difference on the bathroom scale.
“Genetics,” Dr. Garg added, “it’s a big deal. Some people process food quickly. Others burn calories slowly.”
What’s more, many lifestyle choices affect your weight, so changing just one—exercising or getting the recommended seven or eight hours of sleep—won’t suddenly help you lose or shed pounds. “It is not so easy to calculate because it is not just one thing,” said Dr. Garg.
While you can’t change your genes or stress-free eating, activities used to increase your metabolism are good for you. Here are some good habits that, even if they don’t fast track your credit situation, will at least make you feel better:
A caveat: There is no evidence that hormone replacement therapy, used to relieve menopausal symptoms, will make you gain or lose weight.
“Don’t spend your money on special meals or extra passes.” Instead, choose a lifestyle that includes regular exercise, healthy eating, adequate sleep, and less stress. In the end, it’s about consuming fewer calories than you expend—and claiming your inheritance.
