Writing A Book Format Template – This is a collection of best practice and “book sample writing” tips if you are writing a book especially for interior design. You want your book to look clean and not scream “print yourself”. It’s not rocket science, and a few options add up to a big difference. These tips will be useful to you whenever you are writing a book and need a template for a printed project.
First, decide whether to prepare it yourself using our sample book or hire an expert.
Writing A Book Format Template
Your first decision is to decide whether the interior layout is a DIY project or whether you should hire it. With new software and templates, you can do it entirely yourself. That said, consider getting an expert if you’re on a tight budget, because I’ve learned the hard way that packaging a book for a newspaper can be time-consuming. This is not a comprehensive list, but here are some tips for preparing a book that looks professional and is not self-published. There are embedded hyperlinks so you can find out more about each of these topics.
This section of the checklist includes items to organize at the front while you are writing your book. Why is it important? Because it will save you time and money later if you take a few minutes to change the settings in your file before the deadline.
Note that I write in Microsoft Word, so these screenshots apply to Word. (Continue reading below this section for formatting that should be applied after you’ve written and when you’ve created the actual layout.)

How To Create Effective Document Templates
My recommendation is not to do it in Microsoft Word. It is a big annoyance for printers for many reasons, including the fact that Word generates text in RGB format while the printer uses CMYK, so black text may not be exported in black. The solution is to use software specifically for print layout. Professionals use software like Adobe InDesign (the gold standard), but now there are great choices of free software available through book publishers. Here are three options to consider:
Okay, now that you’ve decided which tool to use to create your layout, below is a checklist of form options that will make your final book look professional. Keep in mind that most of the photos below show how to install options in Microsoft Word, although I don’t recommend creating your final layout in Word.
I know you really want to include your photos in the range they should go in relation to the story. You say it will mean more to the reader. You say, “This method makes sense.” “You are not wrong,” I said.
First, the room is not enough. Let’s say your book is a standard “business card” size, such as 6 inches by 9 inches (6 × 9) or 5.5 inches by 8.25 inches. Below is a 6 x 9 book with photos inserted in the middle of the book. You can see how much text space there is to rotate the photo. Otherwise the photo will be too small otherwise it will only be an inch or so for the text block.

Believe me, I learned this the very hard way. I posted the book myself with the photos in line. Then I saw the evidence and realized it was a disaster. Every time I take a photo, where I want to waste and I want to redo it.
It is important to understand that the layout appears larger on screen than when printed. Hands in the picture below for scale.
The next reason is that if you are working in Microsoft Word, entering and processing photos is a huge pain. The title makes the problem more complicated. The words are not really made for this. So, trying to make your layout look good with the surrounding text will frustrate you and you’ll end up tweaking it and then tweaking it again. It just saves the work and seriousness for all the group photos in the middle or in the side part. And do it after the writing/editing process is complete, not while you’re still going backwards.
Well, if you decide to do the layout yourself, I have a template for you to play with in Microsoft Word. I know, I rejected the Word throughout the article, and I still do. However, this template can be useful for drawing out your manuscript and figuring out how many pages there will be and how it will look in a 6 x 9 format. This template can be useful for printing drafts that others can review.

And so I created a template for a professionally published life story. It has all the pre-built settings and you can copy and paste your chapters.
As I mentioned, the nice thing is that you can see the duration and how fast it works using these settings using familiar software.
Remember I used this exact layout and exported it to a local printer for 1,000 copies so it could be done. However, before you go down this path, make sure you can export the Microsoft Word layout to a PDF that works for your printing company. One difficult step is to export a PDF from Word that maintains 6-inch and 9-inch layouts. Word and Adobe Acrobat do not work well together depending on your version. I put all the settings in place but I found that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, it should work but it doesn’t.
So even if you don’t end up using this Microsoft Word template for your book products, using it for your workflow can help you see how the settings work together.

The author wants to see examples of new plot patterns because there are many ways to achieve this. What goes into a new plot? How do you format it?
