Sample Letter Of Recommendation Graduate

Sample Letter Of Recommendation Graduate – A Graduate School Recommendation Letter is a written letter of acceptance from a prospective graduate student submitted with the application. Recommendations should be written by professional or academic contacts who really know the applicant and can provide a credible perspective. The letter should be short and positive, and should use specific examples when possible.

The purpose of this letter is not only to praise the applicant. Everyone has good qualities, but only a few are qualified to graduate from graduate school. The proposal should provide arguments as to why the prospective student will be successful in the intended program. It also includes:

If possible, claims should be supported with specific examples. It’s easy to say that someone is smart or intelligent, but it makes more sense to demonstrate the applicant’s strengths through anecdotes from the workplace or classroom.

Reference Letter Examples

Applicants will need 2 to 4 letters of recommendation to support their graduate school application. The best options for writing this letter are the candidate’s professor, supervisor, advisor, manager, and company. The person writing the letter must be able to draw on long-term contacts to determine the applicant’s skills, work habits, and personal character.

A professor or advisor can easily assess a candidate’s academic qualities and academic temperament, while a manager or supervisor may be able to refer to a long work relationship to confirm their character.

Letters of recommendation for graduate school should be at least one full page (usually 400 – 600 words) and include a heading, an introduction, up to 4 body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

The following information about the author of the letter should be in the upper left corner of the page:

Letter Of Reference (lor)

The introduction simply states who is writing the letter to whom, and which candidate the writer is writing on behalf of. This paragraph should only be 2-4 sentences long.

Example #1 Dear Sir/Madam: I am writing to support Gary Yamamoto and his desire to attend Dartmouth College for a master’s program in Cell Biology. Every year, I get countless requests to write letters like this, but it’s only on behalf of a few exceptional students that I take the trouble. I sincerely believe that only the most meritorious students should be accepted into any program, and Mr. Yamamoto is a particularly promising Biology student.

In this example, a university professor writes on behalf of a student and they emphasize that they only recommend students who are suitable candidates for their chosen program. By emphasizing that they don’t take sending letters of recommendation lightly, they make their recommendations more persuasive.

Example #2 To Whom It May Concern: It is with great honor that I am writing to recommend Francine Charles for the Art History graduate program. Francine has worked for me at The Word, a bookstore near the McGill campus, for the past three years and I have found her to be a kind and hardworking person. His knowledge and love of art history spans thousands of years and includes many indigenous cultures.

Letter Of Recommendation: How To Write + Samples & Templates

This example is written from a hiring manager’s perspective and includes the length of time the candidate has worked with that employer, as well as some positive attributes. Since this information is included in the introduction, personal reflections and specific examples should be included in the body of the letter.

Next, the writer should explain the context in which that student identified, and for how long. A description of the length of time the author has known the student and the nature of their relationship will emphasize the positive attributes of the student following this section. In terms of length, this paragraph should consist of 3-6 correct sentences.

Example #1 During the Fall/Winter 2015 and 2016 semesters, I had the pleasure of having Mr. Yamamoto in my Advanced Biology and Microbiology 1 class. Even though my class size is quite large, I am always interested in students who present exemplary work. Gary’s work was always regular and organized, and most importantly, his work and test results but he was at the top of his schedule. Compared to most of his peers, I can say with confidence that Mr. Yamamoto is an exceptional student who will be of great value to any university he chooses to attend.

Here, a professor uses personal comparisons and observations to demonstrate that the candidate is an outstanding student. They also specify in detail how long students know each other.

Example #2 I first met Jacinthe four years ago when she came to me for counseling. I remember being impressed by her enthusiasm and the importance she placed on her education. While most first-year students are satisfied with a straightforward first-year curriculum, Jacinthe wanted to ensure that her curriculum would support her ability to excel and provide the greatest opportunities for future study. This important early selection helped Jacinthe make the Dean’s list for the next three years and allowed her to pursue outside interests in athletic administration and student affairs.

In this example, the authors describe their first meeting with the student. By doing this, they say that the student is easily remembered, while also stating how long they have known the student. They focus on the student’s academic achievements and provide positive examples of the candidate’s personal qualities (which will be further explained in the next section).

After describing the writer’s relationship with the student, the next paragraph will describe the student’s skills and positive attributes in the body of the letter. This section should include a positive description of the student’s work habits, character and sense of responsibility. Only one paragraph is needed for this part of the letter, but depending on how much detail the writer chooses to include, it can take up to 3 paragraphs.

Example #1 Although Cory has consistently demonstrated skill, intelligence and a willingness to work, the best example of his intelligence was when I asked him to record all the materials in the building. In the production of books and other materials, we have a large stock of paper, ink and other materials. Instead of just counting everything and putting it back in its original place, it will first take everything out and the shelves and containers in a way that makes counting easier in the future. I was amazed that Cory was able to take all the inventory, organize the work area for easier work and counting before the day was over. This shows how Cory is always willing to exceed expectations, work quickly and efficiently, and take initiative when needed.

Academic Coordinator Recommendation Letter

In the example above, the employer uses specific examples to highlight the candidate’s positive qualities. It describes how the applicant exceeded the employer’s expectations and used his problem-solving skills in performing the job.

Example #2 Gary was very helpful in the microbiology lab; with his great enthusiasm for the subject, he made the past year even better for me. Volunteering his free time, he helped me with lab experiments for second graders and, in return, I collaborated with him on his school projects. I believe that offering help and knowing how to ask for it is an important skill when working in the scientific community and especially in laboratory situations. I was very impressed when Gary suggested that we conduct an experiment for the students to study the effects of ultraviolet light on yeast fermentation rates. He was responsible for gathering the necessary materials, and the classroom experience was a complete success. As his school records attest, Mr. Yamamoto’s work was always of the highest quality. In my opinion, her academic excellence, along with her ability to work in a group and perform in a competitive environment, make her an excellent candidate for the Microbiology graduate program.

This longer example has the lab supervisor using multiple examples to demonstrate positive character, academic excellence, involvement in school, and ability to work in their chosen field. By showing their understanding of the demands of the specific field of study, their recommendations will be taken more seriously.

The closing paragraph should summarize and reiterate the writer’s recommendations for the applicant, and should include the preferred form of contact. This paragraph should only be 2-4 sentences long. The writer must also add his signature at the bottom of the conclusion to validate the letter.
