All of these books are also available on Amazon’s new Kindle Paperwhite (affiliate link), which makes the perfect gift for kids thanks to Kindle FreeTime.

FreeTime is new to the Kindle Paperwhite (affiliate link) and allows you to create personalized profiles for your kids and give them access to only the books in your book collection that you want.

Kids then earn achievement badges when they reach their reading goals. Parents can also track their children’s reading with progress reports that show you the total time they’ve spent reading, the number of words found (there’s a built-in dictionary with just one click of a word), badges earned, and books read.

Here are 5 very easy books for the beginning reader that I’m excited to hear Henry read to me on his Kindle Paperwhite (affiliate link) and track reading time with FreeTime (affiliate links used below).

Now the big question. . . Which of these printables will you use with your students first?

I’ve mentioned before that kids can learn A LOT with printed emergency readers and home books. In case you’re wondering, I wasn’t exaggerating at all! Here is a list of some of the concepts that children practice with print emergency readers:

And this list is by no means exhaustive. You can use simple home readers to teach an almost endless number of early learning concepts. And children can use the same books to practice what they learn.

Start by getting all the materials you need to prepare emergency readers. Here’s what I usually use (I may get a commission for purchases made through links in this post):

Make Reading A Slam Dunk With A Tournament Of Books!

And that’s all! Of course, you can also purchase other materials if you want to prepare the books in a different way. Here are some ideas:

Once you have your supplies, it’s time to stock up on emergency readers. While I try to include instructions in all the individual posts, I’ll touch on them here as well. I design most of my mini printable books that can be printed, folded and trimmed. That way you don’t have to throw the scissors.
