How To Start Your Own Blog

How To Start Your Own Blog – I cannot stress enough how wonderful the blogging experience has been for me over the past nine years.

Blogging can seem overwhelming and seem like a lot of hard work (and don’t get me wrong, it sure can be a lot), but at the end of the day it’s incredibly rewarding to have a blog where people stop by, read your work, participate in discussions and maybe even explain how something you’ve written has affected them in some way, shape, or form.

Did you know it was possible to make sitting in a hammock look this uncomfortable? Before I took this photo, I didn’t.

Bloggers all over the web will advise you to pick ONE niche before you start. They treat it as a basic fact of blogging.

Today I’m here to tell you that while single niche blogging may be easier in some ways to start and faster to make money in the early stages, it’s not the only way to achieve blogging success.

It is wise to position yourself as an “expert” in the area you choose to focus on. For this reason, many people decide to demonstrate expertise in just one area.

How To Make A Blog Step By Step Tutorial

Let me be honest and direct with you: blogging about a single topic can get very old, very fast. How can you expect to be successful in the long run if you’re sure you’ll be broke six months from now? Of course, no one expects this to happen, but it is human nature to lose motivation over time.

Our attention must be captured. I couldn’t imagine keeping this blog going for years if all I wrote about was one topic.

I think having my blog online for over nine years is proof of that. Life happens: we grow as people and develop new interests.

You might be thinking, “This looks like a travel blog to me.” Remember that you are looking at the by-product of many years of development! Traveling is my main interest at the moment.

So You Want To Start A Blog? Tips For Beginners + Giveaway!

I started this blog when I was a junior in high school! I used to write blog posts about things I did after school and on weekends. I then blogged about my life during college for four years. But guess what! Now my college days are a thing of the past and my blog is CUSTOMIZED again! My complete file shows this very clearly.

I’ve written about psychology, animals, birds, romance, entertainment, movies, books and more here! That’s why I sometimes hesitate to use the label “travel blog”. I guess in 2022, if

For bloggers with diverse interests like myself, going a multi-topic route will increase your chances of success. To reiterate, I think niche blogging is a great option for experts, but the reality is that most new bloggers run the risk of burnout. It is a fact that many people quit within the first year. The more topics and areas you open yourself up to, especially early on, the less likely you are to drop out.

A multi-topic blog can also be successful if you approach it the right way. It’s about finding a balance. Start broad, find your themes, and DIVE IN! Note: You want to start broad enough that you can discuss many things without it seeming like your blog has no purpose. A middle ground will probably be found. You just need to have separate sections to accurately and clearly divide your work. Think of your blog as an umbrella with smaller niches. Is it possible to do this!

Your blog name is where your blog starts. This is what you want to promote, connect and share with the WHOLE world. Choose smartly. You want your blog title to be something that people can easily interpret, understand and remember.

Rocky Safari is a spin on my real name: Rocky Trifari. It was chosen because it rhymes, suggests adventure and has an extended meaning that ties into the theme of my blog. In Swahili, “safari” means “travel!” My blog is about my journey. Great app, don’t you agree?

Choose something FUN for your blog! Be creative with it. You don’t want to change it later (it’s a lot of work to do, trust me. I’ve been there…) so if you can, pick a good name to start with! If your blog will discuss many topics, make sure the name is not too specialized so that you have the flexibility to tie in all the topics you hope to blog about.

Pro tip: You may want to list the available domain names while choosing your blog name. To do this, you can check availability at Namecheap, a domain name registrar linked below for your convenience.

For most bloggers, this is where it gets a little confusing. “Hospitality; What is hosted? Don’t worry if you feel this way, it’s normal. I know I felt this way at first. If you decide to use Bluehost (which I recommend, as it is both cheap and easy to use), you can sign up with the button above to get instant access to EVEN LESS EXPENSIVE HOSTING. Did I mention Bluehost customer service is OUT OF THIS WORLD? Seriously.

Essentially, “hosting” refers to where you store and serve your website. The gateway people communicate with when they “open” your blog in their browser. For a new blogger with many topics, a hosting plan should be fast, secure, easy to use, and affordable.

True story: When I was building my blog, I called Bluehost’s customer support line almost daily. I was a regular on their hotline, (unfortunately for them)… Tons of questions. Tons of problems. I had no idea what I was doing then. I liked to experiment and sometimes got into a little deep trouble. I would hack my site and take it offline. Again and again.

Bluehost always came to the rescue and resolved the issue within minutes. For your convenience, I have a Getting started with Bluehost mini guide below to help you get started. Again, you can call Bluehost with any questions you have and they will do their best to help you, so PLEASE don’t worry. It’s going to go well!

I actually started using Siteground when my blog became popular. But I started with Bluehost and have been very happy with them when I entered the world of self-hosted blogging. For more information on the switch, read: Why I Switched from Bluehost to Siteground. If you want to get started with Siteground instead of Bluehost, these next steps are similar, so you can use my guide to get started. Siteground’s customer service is also great, so they can help you too!

Hosting is a necessary step to be able to fully own, control and create your own blog. Enjoy it while it’s cheap, because when your blog gets a lot of traffic, hosting a website becomes much more expensive. I can tell you from personal experience with my other sites that both Hostgator and ASmallOrange are horrible and I will never use them again.

Since I started hosting my blog with Bluehost and had such a positive experience using them, I recommend you start with them as well.

Choice Plus is a solid, great starter plan if you value and prioritize speed and performance above all else. If you’re okay with paying a little more, start there.

Reasons Why You Should Start A Blog In 2023

For most of you, I would recommend going with the cheapest option (currently) at $3.95 per month. At the moment you are just starting your blog so I think there is no point in paying more than you have to. Plus, you can always upgrade your plan in the future.

I recommend getting a good domain name from Namecheap because their prices are the most competitive I’ve come across so far.

If it isn’t, go back to the beginning and think of more ideas. Not so fast. Also, there are many new domain extensions like “.rock” or “.ninja” that look amazing at first glance. Even if they simply work as “.com” or “.org”, the community is still a bit stuck in the “.com” mentality and using anything else can do more harm than good.

At this point, if you are new to blogging, I would recommend choosing the 12-month plan as well as the private domain option. Mathematically, it’s a bit more expensive than buying 36 months up front, but you never know what could happen next. Don’t get stuck paying more for a website you might not want to keep a year from now.
