How To Start Writing Your Story

How To Start Writing Your Story – Happy! You’ve decided that writing your life story is the way to go, but you may be wondering, ‘Where do I start?’

If you’re not sure what that is, read my post titled What is a Ghostwriter? First. But if you’re ready to go, then….

It will be easier for you to get started if you have all or most of the information you need in advance.

How To Get Motivated To Write Your Story

One of the most fun and effective ways to do this is to meditate. Write down every event in your life, big and small, that happens to you.

Don’t just write down events – also record your thoughts, feelings and sensory information such as smell, sound and touch.

These ideas will help bring your story to life so that the impact is greater when you write your life story.

Be patient – give this a few weeks. Please have at least 500 memories on your list before you start writing.

You’ll find that even after you start writing, memories will keep coming back during the process – and even after you finish!

This is what happened to me when I wrote a memoir about my experience with breast cancer.

Once you’ve completed the brainstorming process, it’s time to put all of your information in chronological order.

You can do it with pen and paper and allocate one page/pages for each year, or you can do it on your computer and have a folder for each year.

Another option is to use an online organization tool like Trello. There are many tools “out there” similar to this.

You don’t have to write your story in any particular order, but it can be helpful if your information is organized this way.

But if you are a beginner, creating a picture will definitely be useful, even if you decide to change it later.

You can be as general or as specific as you like and you can divide the book into broad sections.

For example, childhood, work, marriage, family, travel, retirement, and put all events in appropriate sections of the picture.

This will be harder to do until you start writing your life story, so my advice is to wait until then.

As you write, it becomes easier for you to know where one chapter should end and another chapter begin.

How To Start Writing Your Story

You can do it the usual way – start from your birth and write the whole story in chronological order.

However, it is often more interesting to readers if you start with a special event that is the ending, something that changes the course of your life.

In later chapters, you can go back to the beginning and show how the events in your life led to this climax, and what happened after.

There are other ways to start – for example, you could introduce a mystery or a puzzle, something you’re curious about, and then reveal the answer in subsequent chapters.

Or start now with a flashback to an important event, and then explain the events leading up to that event.

This is the fun part. Put pen to paper, or hands to keyboard, and let your creativity flow.

If you haven’t written anything important since your last school assignment, you can be slow at first.

The most important thing to remember is that this is just your first draft. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

No one else needs to read it, but you. Don’t worry about spelling, punctuation or grammar, you can correct these mistakes later.

If you get to a part where you realize you don’t have enough information or need to do more research, just enter a placeholder, such as RESEARCH LATER, so you can come back to it when you’re done.

If you stop researching too often while writing, it will slow down the process. This can cause you to lose motivation, because you don’t seem to be making progress.

Once writing becomes part of your routine, it will be easier to keep momentum and finish your story.

It also helps if you have a designated place to write, preferably a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed.

Should Your Story Have A Prologue?

And if you forget why you wrote it, read this post to remind you why you started writing in the first place.

But now that you have completed your first draft, you will find, as you read it, that there are parts that need to be deleted, changed or rewritten.

First, put your manuscript aside for a few weeks, a few months if you can, before reading it again.

You’ve spent so much time writing it that you can’t be fair about its flaws.

And there will be shortages. No one, not even Lee Child or Stephen King, writes a perfect first draft.

Afterwards, when you read your story again, the time you spend gives you a sharper perspective and you can see the flaws more clearly.

And by mistakes I don’t just mean spelling and grammar, I’m talking about the bigger picture, like:

The plot of the story, the way it is structured, whether it holds interest, the emotions it evokes in the reader.

Of course they must read diligently and master English well.

Give them a list of questions to answer, such as ‘Did the beginning interest you and make you want to keep reading?

Is there anything you don’t understand, or should I add or leave out? Did you like the ending?’

Based on your own thoughts and the opinions of critical friends (whose advice you don’t have to follow if you don’t agree), you can now make changes, rewrite if necessary, and polish on your prose until it shines.

Now that you understand the big pictures of your story, it’s time to attack your spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Once you’ve gone through and corrected your mistakes as best you can, you’ll still need another pair of eyes.

No matter how good your English is, there will be things you miss, because you can’t see your own mistakes.

If not, pass it around to your friends and acquaintances and find someone who knows the rules of spelling, grammar and punctuation and is willing to read your manuscript for you.

Telling Our Stories: A Guide To Writing Your Own Story

To make your story as interesting as possible, there is one final step that I highly recommend.

Many professional writers do this; This is a great way to spot sentences that feel clunky, or don’t make sense, or don’t have the right wording.

If you’re writing your story just for family and friends, you can create your own book with an online publishing program, or you can hire a publisher to do it for you.

But it is better if you can find one in your area, because that will reduce the cost of sending the published book to you.

How To Write A Book And Get It Published

Read the publisher’s terms and conditions carefully to make sure you know exactly what you’re paying for, and what’s not included.

Many publishers will also give you the option to publish your book so that it is available in bookstores for the general public to buy, if that is your goal, although the marketing of the book is up to you.

Some publishers offer marketing packages in addition to publishing packages, but again, check the terms carefully.

No matter how experienced a marketer is, it is impossible to know or predict how many books will sell.

You may be paying thousands of dollars for a marketing package, which you may not get back in sales and leave you out of pocket.

Choose the best quality photos – for publication purposes, your photos should be at least 300 dpi.

Keep in mind that the more photos you have, the more expensive they will be to publish, and color will be more expensive than black and white.
