This week I’m sharing the first lesson in my FREE website builder tutorial. This tutorial is something I put together when Covid-19 first hit. When we were all trapped in our apartments or houses and people lost their jobs or were laid off. This was my way of giving back and creating this free tutorial. My goal was to help several healthcare professionals get a website up and running.

As you probably know, I have three courses that teach people how to grow your audience by creating blog content that can be found on Google, how to monetize your website with passive income streams, and how to automate your income with email marketing. However, none of this is possible even if you don’t have a website yet. So I’ve been slowly working on these free lessons that will take you from literally square zero without any website to running a beautiful WordPress site.

Again, it’s 100% free. I’m not sure if it will stay free forever, but for now it’s a great way to learn how to build your own website, step by step, if that’s something you need to work on. So before we dive into how to start a website, I wanted to touch on why it’s important to have a website in the first place. Understanding why you are doing something can sometimes motivate you and keep you excited about a project even if it gets a little boring.

Well, nowadays it’s basically a requirement to have a web presence. At the very least, your website is where people will go to learn more about you and your business and find out how they can contact you for your services.

Your website is where you can let people know who you are and what you have to offer.

For example, when I figure out how to optimize my content for Google search, with 14 blog posts on my Functional Nutrition Answers website, I can get over 20,000 visitors to my website every month.

And this amount of visitors allows me to earn passive income through my website, which means that I do not exchange my time for money. I bet once and people can passively buy something at any time. And of course, the more people I get to my website, the more sales opportunities I have.

The way I currently make money on this site is through affiliate income. Mostly through Amazon affiliate links, making between $250 and $350 a month right now with that level of traffic, which is unbelievable. So, you know, it’s over $3,000 a year just for the extra money. So if you are worried about the cost of creating a website, you should more than set yourself back if you start pursuing some of these passive income streams like affiliate income.

I also run a membership site where people can pay me monthly to access private nutrition content. It is only available to paying subscribers. And that gives me an extra $30,000 a year. So in total, the site is bringing in about $35,000 a year right now, which is great, right?

And it’s not really, frankly, that much work. I will only write one new blog post per month. And then the content on the member page is updated twice a month. So it’s a really good return for the amount of time it puts into it, for the amount of money it gives back.

And as my traffic grows, I can tap into additional revenue streams, such as advertising revenue. I need to reach 25,000 visitors per month to qualify for an ad network called Mediavine,

And sponsored content. If people want to pay me to create content with their products, that’s another way to make money.

These are all viable options for any online store owner. And people spend an incredible amount of time online, either on their laptops or on their phones. 3.5 billion searches are done on Google every day. So, as business owners, we should think about how we can get something out of this? And having a website is important to benefit from Google search traffic.

The third benefit of a website is that it is incredibly easy to grow your email list. And your email list is where you can communicate with people regularly and build a relationship with them.

So you can create things called lead magnets or optional features that you can set up on your website where you say, “Hey, I’ve got this really cool resource” (or download or whatever). Something of real value that you think your audience would enjoy. And you say, “Sign up here, put your email here to get this lead magnet and join my list.” So people will be able to give you their email, sign up for your email list in exchange for this great resource that you’re providing for free.

And then once they’re on your email list, you can create regular communication with them, either through something like a weekly or monthly newsletter, or it can all be automated behind the scenes. You can have an automated welcome sequence that welcomes people to your brand, gets them excited about letting them know what you have to offer and how you can help them. And finally introduce them to buy one of your paid online products.
