Few things ruin a day like a dead car battery. But the day is not yet lost. Access to jumper cables and another running vehicle is all you need to get back on the road. And if another running vehicle is not available, you can also use a portable starter motor. All you have to do is follow these simple instructions.

It is a good idea to always carry a jumper cable in the vehicle, as well as a first aid kit, flashlight, extra jacket and other emergency supplies. Better to have them and never need them than to need them and be without.

They are usually under the hood, but may be in the trunk or elsewhere – check your owner’s manual.

Park close enough to allow the jump leads to reach between both vehicle batteries. Make sure the ignition keys of both vehicles are turned off.
