You start by creating an Upwork profile, and once it’s approved, you can start searching for work and submitting proposals. The great thing about Upwork is that it is constantly updated with new jobs.

You may need to take some low-paying jobs at first to get established. But once you have some positive reviews and some profile pieces, getting a good paying job is very easy.
ProBlogger is a job board for freelance bloggers and I know many writers who swear by it. Companies post about writing jobs they need to fill and you apply directly to the job posting.
One of the advantages of ProBlogger is that clients pay $70 per job listing, so these clients are more serious. I’ve found clients paying $400 or more per blog post on ProBlogger, so it’s definitely worth a try.
However, keep in mind that ProBlogger jobs are full of offers. So I recommend checking the site often and replying when you find something that interests you.

Unlike many of the job boards on this list, Contena is a monthly paid membership. For the simpler version, you have access to a job board and Contena Academy, a training course for freelance writers.
But it doesn’t come cheap; The most basic version is $99 per month for six months. For six monthly payments of $199, you get access to a writing coach.
I tried Contena a few years ago and thought it was a bit expensive. The job board is basically a summary of all the free job boards available online, so it was hard for me to justify the cost.
However, I know other freelancers who have had good luck with Contena, so I wanted to add it to the list.

Other than Upwork, LinkedIn is probably one of my favorite ways to find clients. Some of my best long-term clients have come from LinkedIn job boards.
If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to set up your LinkedIn profile. Don’t skimp on filling out your profile because it won’t look good to potential clients. You have to fill the title about department, education and experience.
After setting up your profile, you can start searching for jobs on the job board. I recommend searching for “freelance writer” or “freelance SEO writer” to start. Even if you’re not sure if you have the experience, apply for anything that sounds interesting to you.
You should also add everyone you know on LinkedIn as contacts. It’s a great way to let them know what you’re up to and find some work from your current network.

Media Bistro is a job board aimed at anyone looking for media work. A variety of writing, editing, marketing and creative jobs are posted daily.
And top companies like CNN and HBO have job listings at Media Bistro. Most of the jobs I saw posted were for full-time writers, but there were occasional freelance jobs posted. So it’s worth checking every now and then.
Journalism jobs are a platform for freelance journalists, but don’t let that scare you. I got my first big personal finance client about jobs in journalism and I made it clear that I don’t have a journalism degree!
I recommend searching for “freelance writer” and then editing the job type section to say “freelance”. You will probably need to submit a resume with most job applications.

Join any freelance, entrepreneurship and blog groups you find interesting. Appear regularly in those groups and try to find ways to provide value.

Yes that is true. In addition to finding used junk you probably don’t need, you can also find potential writing jobs on Craigslist. I have to be honest, looking for work on Craigslist is not my favorite, but it is possible to find great jobs on the platform.
I recommend you start by looking for jobs locally. In my experience, potential clients often prefer to work with local writers. But I recommend looking at big cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami.
Once you’ve selected your location, you’ll click “Write/Edit” on the Jobs tab. You can check out different cities until you find some opportunities that seem interesting.
BloggingPro is a job board for freelance bloggers. And although it’s not as active as ProBlogger, I do see great posts from time to time. I recommend checking it at least once a day to see if anything comes up.
