Freelance Writing Sites For Beginners

Freelance Writing Sites For Beginners – In my opinion, freelance writing is undoubtedly one of the best ways to make money online. You can start with no experience and start earning your first $1,000 per month.

That’s exactly what happened to me when I started freelance writing in 2016. When I started looking for freelance writing jobs, I had no degree, no writing samples, and no professional connections.

But within months, I was consistently making over $1,800 a month. And I’ve done it using many of the tools I’ll describe in this article.

Freelance Writing Jobs For Beginners

To help you get started, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best ways to find new freelance writing jobs online. Let’s dive in!

If you haven’t heard of it, Upwork is a global freelance platform. Clients post jobs on the platform and freelance writers can submit proposals and bid for those jobs.

Upwork is where I got my start as a freelance writer and I think it’s one of the best places for new freelance writers to find paid writing work. In total, I’ve earned over $90,000 from jobs found on Upwork alone.

You start by creating an Upwork profile, and once it’s approved, you can start searching for work and submitting proposals. The great thing about Upwork is that it is constantly updated with new jobs.

How To Get Freelance Writing Jobs For Beginners

You may need to take some low-paying jobs at first to get established. But once you have some positive reviews and some profile pieces, getting a good paying job is very easy.

ProBlogger is a job board for freelance bloggers and I know many writers who swear by it. Companies post about writing jobs they need to fill and you apply directly to the job posting.

One of the advantages of ProBlogger is that clients pay $70 per job listing, so these clients are more serious. I’ve found clients paying $400 or more per blog post on ProBlogger, so it’s definitely worth a try.

However, keep in mind that ProBlogger jobs are full of offers. So I recommend checking the site often and replying when you find something that interests you.

Tips On Getting Entry Level Jobs

Unlike many of the job boards on this list, Contena is a monthly paid membership. For the simpler version, you have access to a job board and Contena Academy, a training course for freelance writers.

But it doesn’t come cheap; The most basic version is $99 per month for six months. For six monthly payments of $199, you get access to a writing coach.

I tried Contena a few years ago and thought it was a bit expensive. The job board is basically a summary of all the free job boards available online, so it was hard for me to justify the cost.

However, I know other freelancers who have had good luck with Contena, so I wanted to add it to the list.

Best Freelance Writing Jobs And Platforms To Find Remote Work

Other than Upwork, LinkedIn is probably one of my favorite ways to find clients. Some of my best long-term clients have come from LinkedIn job boards.

If you don’t already have one, you’ll need to set up your LinkedIn profile. Don’t skimp on filling out your profile because it won’t look good to potential clients. You have to fill the title about department, education and experience.

After setting up your profile, you can start searching for jobs on the job board. I recommend searching for “freelance writer” or “freelance SEO writer” to start. Even if you’re not sure if you have the experience, apply for anything that sounds interesting to you.

You should also add everyone you know on LinkedIn as contacts. It’s a great way to let them know what you’re up to and find some work from your current network.

Ways To Find Freelance Writing Jobs (as A Beginner)

Media Bistro is a job board aimed at anyone looking for media work. A variety of writing, editing, marketing and creative jobs are posted daily.

And top companies like CNN and HBO have job listings at Media Bistro. Most of the jobs I saw posted were for full-time writers, but there were occasional freelance jobs posted. So it’s worth checking every now and then.

Journalism jobs are a platform for freelance journalists, but don’t let that scare you. I got my first big personal finance client about jobs in journalism and I made it clear that I don’t have a journalism degree!

I recommend searching for “freelance writer” and then editing the job type section to say “freelance”. You will probably need to submit a resume with most job applications.

Beginner’s Guide To Freelance Writing Jobs: Top Websites And Expert Tips For Success

All Freelance Writing is one of my favorite forums and I try to check it every day. There are some very good paying jobs posted on this site occasionally that pay $1.50 per word!

One thing I like about it is that it publishes the salary range with each job posting and specifies whether it is a low, medium or high paying job. You can pay to advertise your services on the site’s writer directory.

Freelance writing jobs aren’t technically a job board. Instead, the site publishes a daily blog post with new freelance writing gigs.

Jobs are pulled from other free online job boards. And the site isn’t just for freelance bloggers; Also publishes editing, proofreading and drafting work.

Easy Ways To Find Freelance Writing Jobs If You’re A Mom

There are two ways you can find jobs on FreelanceWriting.com. The site has a job board where it lists gigs from other job boards like Indeed and Craigslist.

Or, if you want your leads to come to you, you can sign up for the Morning Coffee newsletter. This is a daily email with eight hand-picked job postings, so these are high-quality leads.

IWriter is a great site for new freelance writers. You start by filling out a form and two 250-word writing prompts.

I generally don’t recommend that freelancers complete unpaid writing tests. But if you choose to write for iWriter, you can start writing for new clients right away.

You can take as much or as little work as you want, and the site pays writers weekly via PayPal. The amount you pay depends on your iWriter “level” and the total length of your article.

Appearing in various Facebook groups is an excellent way to find new freelance writing jobs. However, I want to start with a warning: you should never join groups that try to promote you.

Join any freelance, entrepreneurship and blog groups you find interesting. Appear regularly in those groups and try to find ways to provide value.

Get to know people, answer their questions and never expect any of them to hire you. Over time, you start making a name for yourself and people start asking you to work for them.

Top 5 Freelancing Skills For Beginners

I know it sounds counterintuitive to say that you can find writing assignments from other freelance writers. After all, aren’t other freelance writers your competition?

There are a lot of jobs out there, and everyone has a different niche that they specialize in. I’ve had more experienced writers send me work below the pay grade.

Writers have sent me work that they are out of position or that they are too busy to take on.

The point is, get out there and make friends with other writers! This will help you personally and professionally in the long run.

Freelance Writing Jobs

Besides LinkedIn, Twitter is one of the best platforms for freelance writers. But to take advantage of it, you need to make sure that your Twitter profile is professional.

That means no selfies, grainy photos or long Twitter chats with other users. Use a professional headshot and optimize your bio to show you’re a freelance writer.

I recommend adding keywords like “freelance writer for hire”. And of course, you’ll want to add a link to your freelance writer website.

Once your profile is up to par, you can start following and interacting with companies you think you might want to write for.

I’m Noticing Something Different About Freelance Writing Jobs In 2024

Yes that is true. In addition to finding used junk you probably don’t need, you can also find potential writing jobs on Craigslist. I have to be honest, looking for work on Craigslist is not my favorite, but it is possible to find great jobs on the platform.

I recommend you start by looking for jobs locally. In my experience, potential clients often prefer to work with local writers. But I recommend looking at big cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Miami.

Once you’ve selected your location, you’ll click “Write/Edit” on the Jobs tab. You can check out different cities until you find some opportunities that seem interesting.

BloggingPro is a job board for freelance bloggers. And although it’s not as active as ProBlogger, I do see great posts from time to time. I recommend checking it at least once a day to see if anything comes up.
