It’s been years since I’ve recognized the variation between their chicken-veggie-ramen noodle and beef versions (because a woman’s age should be a mystery. Always.)

While I’m partial to making it with ramen noodles, it also works with other instant noodles like Maggi 2-Minute Noodles. I’ve done this mainly with a variety of ramen noodles and instant noodles available in Australian grocery stores. Mainly so I can get whatever is currently on sale!

It doesn’t matter what flavor the packet is, just imagine soup seasoning packets and other mysterious foil pouches you find (dried “meat” anyone? 😳).

The reason I like to cook noodles in a pan like vegetables and chicken is because the gluten in the noodles helps thicken the sauce so it sticks well to the noodles. Unlike other stir-fry recipes I’ve shared, this recipe does not contain corn/maize or other thickeners in the sauce. So when I cook rice, I use it in a casserole dish. 🙂

Instant noodles of all shapes and sizes are mostly meant to be foolproof (think college students!). The noodles stand well even after longer cooking. If it is not cooked, add more water.

My only advice is to use great skills. Throwing noodles enthusiastically comes with the territory (it’s impossible to resist), and if you use a little trick like the one in the video, you’ll get more noodles.

1. Instant or Ramen Noodles – Any brand or type will work here, though avoid extra large ramen noodles as the pot only holds two (you might break them). Noodle cakes can also be bought in a larger package, unseasoned.

Feel free to use fresh or other dried noodles (rice or wheat), but don’t try this one-pot recipe. Prepare the noodles for each bowl, using about 2 serving cups, and toss the cooked chicken and vegetables with water.

2. Chicken Legs My favorite chicken for this recipe is that they are juicy and better marinated. But this recipe is also perfect for breast and tenderloin. If you want to use ground/minus chicken, use this recipe.

3. Dark soy sauce is universal and has a more colorful and intense flavor than light soy sauce. If you can’t find it, any kind of soy sauce will work here, but mustard is a lighter color.

5. Mirin – A common ingredient in Japanese cuisine, the sweet Japanese cuisine is also widely used in other Asian cuisines. It can be found in the Australian, Asian section, or in the Asian grocery stores in major supermarkets here.

Chinese mulled wine is served with dry balls. Otherwise, use 1/2 cup water + 3/4 cup low-sodium chicken stock/broth (instead of 1/4 cup water) and skip the marinade.

6. The total cooking time of the noodles should be per batch. If the noodles are longer, add a little more water.

I swear I have the latest food trend on TikTok to thank for cooking dinner for the family lately. We couldn’t resist trying out the following cute-looking TikTok food hack, and with so many ingredients (minus one), it was super quick to cook at home! This TikTok Ramen recipe is usually made with Trader Joe’s Everything Bagel flavor, but we didn’t replace it with the Furikake flavor. If you don’t know, furikake is seasoned with Japanese seaweed, sesame and other spices. As ramen is a Japanese dish, we think it’s very tasty and is complemented by a salty side.

Ramen noodles are a pretty staple in our pantry, and these TikTok Ramen Hacks are a great way to use them up by cutting out sodium and preservatives from packaged foods. I still wouldn’t call it a healthy diet, but any time I can cut down on processed foods, I call it a win.

The ram at Trader Joe’s called for bagel flavor on everything, but we didn’t have the furikake seasoning to substitute, which we thought would be a great flavor option! Without trying the baguette, it’s hard to say which version is better, but we can attest to how delicious this ramen is with its Japanese flavor.

Some of the changes we made were much less soy sauce than others. From watching a few videos, it looked like some used a couple of tablespoons, but we only used 2 Tbsp of soy sauce. Since my kids love spicy food, we added chili flakes, but if your kids don’t like spicy, you can definitely leave it out.

I increased the brown sugar from 1/2 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon just because my kids like things a little on the sweet side, trying to balance out the soy sauce.

If I were to do it again, I would definitely change things up and add some of the following:
