Content Writing Jobs For Beginners – In my opinion, free writing is one of the best ways to make money online. You can start with no experience and start earning your first $1,000 per month quickly.
This is what happened to me when I started freelance writing in 2016. When I started looking for freelance writing jobs, I had no lessons, no writing samples, and no professional connections.

Content Writing Jobs For Beginners
But within a few months, I was consistently making over $1,800 per month. And I do it using several tools that I will explain in this article.
Starting A Freelance Writing Career With No Experience
To help you get started, I’ve put together a list of some of the best ways to find new freelance writing jobs online. Let’s dive in!
If you haven’t heard, Upwork is a global freelance platform. Clients post jobs on the platform and freelance writers can submit proposals and bid on the work.
Upwork is where I started as a freelance writer, and I think it’s still one of the best places for new freelance writers to find paid writing jobs. In total, I have made over $90,000 just from the jobs I found on Upwork alone.
You’ll start by creating an AppWork profile, and once approved, you can start searching for jobs and submitting offers. The great thing about AppWork is that it is constantly updated with new functions.
Mistakes To Avoid When Looking For Freelance Writing Jobs For Beginners
You may accept some low-paying jobs at first just to establish yourself. But once you get positive reviews and some profile, it’s very easy to start a high-paying job.
ProBlogger is a job board for freelance bloggers, and I know a lot of writers who swear by it. Businesses will post about writing jobs they need to fill, and you can apply directly to those job postings.
One of the advantages of ProBlogger is that clients have to pay $70 for each job listing, so these clients are very serious. I’ve found clients paying $400 or more per blog post on ProBlogger, so it’s worth a try.
However, be aware that ProBlogger jobs are flooded with offers. So I recommend checking the site often and replying as soon as you find something that interests you.
How To Find Freelance Writing Jobs Online
Unlike most job boards on this list, Cantina is a paid monthly membership. For the most basic version, you get access to JobBoard and Cantina Academy, a training course for freelance writers.
But they’re not cheap; The most basic version is $99 per month for six months. For six monthly payments of $199, you have access to a writing coach.
I tried Cantina a few years ago and it was a bit pricey. The job board is basically a collection of all the free job boards available online, so I had a hard time determining the cost.
However, I know other freelancers who have had great luck with Cantina, so I wanted to include it on the list.
Guaranteed Websites To Land Freelance Content Writing Jobs
Besides Upwork, LinkedIn is probably one of my favorite ways to find clients. Some of my best long-term clients have come from the LinkedIn job board.
If you don’t have one yet, you need to set up your LinkedIn profile. Don’t be lazy in filling out your profile because it doesn’t look good in the eyes of potential customers. You should fill in your title, department, education, and experience.
Once your profile is set up, you can search for jobs on job boards. I recommend searching for “freelance writer” or “freelance SEO writer” to get started. Apply to anything you think is interesting, even if you’re not sure you have the experience.
You should also add everyone you know as connections on LinkedIn. It’s a great way to let them know what you’re up to and perhaps find work from your current network.
Get Paid To Write About Anything: A Freelance Writer’s Guide
Media Bistro is a job board designed for anyone looking for media work. Every day there are various types of writing, editing, marketing, and creative jobs.
And big-name companies like CNN and HBO have job openings at Media Bistro. Most of the jobs I see are for full-time writers, but there are occasional freelance positions. So it’s worth watching once in a while.
Journalism Jobs is a job board for freelance journalists, but don’t let that scare you. I found my first big personal finance client in a journalism job, and I explained that I didn’t have a journalism degree!
I recommend searching for “Freelance Writer” and then editing the Job Type section to “Freelance Writer”. You will probably have a resume with several job applications.
Effective Ways To Get Freelance Writing Jobs For Beginners In India
All Freelance Writers is one of my favorite job boards and I try to check it every day. There are sometimes some high paying jobs posted on this site, like this one that pays $1.50 per word!
One of the things I like is that they post a salary range on each job posting, and indicate whether the job is low, medium, or high paying. You can also pay to advertise your services on the site’s author directory.
Freelance writing jobs are not technically job boards. Instead, the site publishes daily blog posts with new freelance writing gigs.
Jobs are taken from other free job boards online. And this site isn’t just for freelance bloggers; They also publish editing, proofreading, and copywriting jobs.
How To Land A Freelance Writing Job With No Experience
There are two ways to find work with FreelanceWriting.com. The site has a job board, where gigs are posted from other job boards like Indeed and Craigslist.
Or if you’d prefer to get job leads, you can sign up for the Morning Coffee newsletter. This is a daily email with eight hand-picked job openings, so these are likely high-quality leads.
IWriter is a fantastic site for new freelance writers. You’ll start by filling out a form and two 250-word writing prompts.
I generally don’t advise freelancers to complete unpaid writing tests. But if you’re selected to write for iWriter, you can start writing for new clients immediately.
Roadmap To Become A Content Writer, Jobs, Salary, Skills Required
You can do as much or as little work as you want, and the site pays writers weekly via PayPal. The amount you pay depends on your iWriter “level” and the total length of the article.
One of the best ways to find new freelance writing jobs is to appear in various Facebook groups. However, I want to start with a warning: you should never go to groups that are trying to promote themselves.
Join any freelancing, entrepreneurship and blogging groups you find interesting. Show up regularly in these groups and try to find ways to provide value.
Get to know people, answer their questions, and never expect any of them to hire you. Over time, you will start to become famous and people will ask you to work for them.
Ways To Land Your First Gig As A Freelance Content Writer
I know it sounds counterintuitive to say that you can find written work from other freelance writers. After all, aren’t other freelance writers your competition?
There is a lot of work to do, and everyone has their own different areas of specialization. There are more experienced writers who send me work that costs less.
I’ve also had writers send me work that was out of their reach or too busy for them to work on.
The point is, get out there and make friends with other writers! This will help you personally and professionally in the long run.
Must Do Things Before Starting Freelance Writing As A Job
Apart from LinkedIn, Twitter is one of the best platforms for freelance writers. But to take advantage of it, you need to make sure your Twitter profile is professional.
This means no selfies, grainy photos or lengthy Twitter arguments with other users. Use a professional headshot and customize your bio to show that you are a freelance writer.
I recommend including keywords, such as “freelance writers for hire.” And of course, you’ll want to include a link to your freelance writing website.
Once your profile is set up, you can start following and interacting with companies you think you’d like to write about.
Strategies To Find Freelance Writing Jobs
Yes that’s correct. Besides finding second-hand junk you probably don’t need, you can also find potential writing jobs on Craigslist. I have to be honest, looking for work on Craigslist is not my favorite but it is possible to get a good job on this platform.
I suggest you start looking for jobs locally. In my experience, prospective clients often work with local writers. But I also recommend visiting big cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Miami.
Once you select a location, you will click “Write/Edit” under the Assignments tab. You can explore different cities until you find some opportunities that look interesting.
Blogging Pro is a job board for freelance bloggers. And while it’s not as active as ProBlogger, I see good posts there from time to time. I recommend checking it at least once a day to see what’s going on.
