Christian Books For Young Readers – With three under 5s in our house, we have read a few Christian books over the past few years. We’ve enjoyed them for all different reasons, but I’ve narrowed it down to the top 10 books that I recommend to anyone looking for Christian books for kids.

These books also make great gifts if you’re looking for a meaningful gift for a new baby or a christening or housewarming gift. These books are all suitable for preschool and elementary school age children.

Christian Books For Young Readers

This is probably our favorite children’s book of all time and we have read it cover to cover several times. Sally Lloyd-Jones’ beautiful, witty writing and Iago’s bold illustrations make this a delightful book for children. This book is divided into Old and New Testaments and focuses on a specific Bible story that brings out the main story – Jesus came. Each story is carefully related to Jesus and God’s plan to bring him into the world to save mankind. We also love that there is a Jesus Storybook coloring book – a great added bonus!

We were very happy to find this book and it is a great way to see more about what prayer is and why we pray. This book is divided into very short one-page chapters that examine certain truths about prayer and related Bible verses. A good book that can be used a little at a time with children. There are also some other excellent books in this series that we’ve enjoyed just as much, including What Every Child Should Know About God and What Every Child Should Know. You should definitely check them all out!

The reason we love these stories so much is because they come with songs. (And they’re great songs that are really nice to listen to!) Great for car rides or to listen to before bed. I especially like that the story covers less “famous” characters from the Bible, like Rahab, Zacchaeus, and the man born blind.

This book is a beautifully written and illustrated book that takes the reader from the Garden of Eden to the cross and resurrection and points to the hope of heaven to come. It can take very complex theological questions, such as the importance of the temple veil, and explain them in an interesting way, painting a picture of the entire biblical narrative. There are also several other good books in this series. You should definitely get the whole collection.

This is a wonderful book of New Testament short stories that is sure to capture your child’s attention and imagination. The stories are beautifully told and the illustrations are very interesting.

Young Readers’ Christian Library Boxed Set

This is another Bible account that we have read many times. As the title suggests, it takes you from Genesis to Revelation, focusing on the big picture of the Bible, and each story relates to the story of God’s master plan for mankind. It’s a good explanation of how all the stories in the Bible fit together. Great reading for adults too!

If you have kids who love to bake, you will love this book! We have a Christmas edition, but there are several different Bake Through the Bible books, each of which helps parents or guardians study the Bible with their children while enjoying cooking together. Each recipe is linked to a Bible story and related questions for discussion. A fun way to read the Bible!

Another book from Sally Lloyd-Jones and Jago, and this one comes as a soft board book – ideal for toddlers. It takes Psalm 23 and presents it in simple language with beautiful pictures. We also have ‘Beloved’ from this range which is just as beautiful.

Christian Books For Young Readers

This is a relatively new find for us and an interesting book in a short series that focuses on families and how they navigate life’s ups and downs in a biblical way. This special book tells the story of the fears, desires and anxieties that two siblings face when they go to a school sports day. Parents talk to them through Bible stories about how God sees them and what they consider important. A great book that shows how the Bible can speak truth in the ordinary moments of our lives.

Wholesome Christian Children’s Book Series

I have included this book together because it can be used together. The Beginner’s Bible is a brightly illustrated children’s Bible with over 90 short stories. It can be read together with the Beginning and God series. This is a booklet to help parents study the Bible more closely with their children. Each chapter is related to a chapter in the Bible for beginners and includes questions to think about, activities to help children understand key concepts, and prayers you can pray together. It’s a great way to look at the Bible together as a family and explore concepts at a child’s level. (And most importantly, Include stickers!)
