The court’s characteristic is to have a family member, friend or associate give the judge a written statement about the defendant’s moral or mental qualities. The letter is usually provided in child custody and/or DUI cases, but can be used in any situation where the court needs to hear about the defendant’s personality and reputation in order to make the case in their favor.

When choosing a person to write a character report, it is important to choose someone who has known you for a long time, as well as someone the court will respect. As an example, it is best to have someone in the community, such as a teacher who has seen you grow as a person, write a good reference for the court.

Driving While Intoxicated (DUI) – If you need a reference for a DUI incident, it may be best to have someone like an employer or close family say how important you are to them. Also, have them write how you are needed and that any jail time or suspension of your driver’s license will put more burden on other people’s shoulders.

Child Custody – If you are in the middle of a custody battle or general family negotiations, it would be advisable to choose someone who has seen you with your children. In recent years, it has become increasingly common for a psychiatrist to observe the children around the parent and have them write a formal recommendation to the court. In family proceedings, a letter from a psychiatrist has enormous power when it comes to court decisions in favor of the best interests of the children.

The letter should be a simple 1-page document outlining your experience with the referrer and why you feel you should provide this reference. Depending on who you are and how the court views you in the case, this may or may not cause the judge to use the letter in their final evaluation.

The body paragraph is your main argument for why the person referred is a person of high moral character. For example, if you are the person’s employer, state how important they are to the workplace and ask the judge to show leniency in this case. Or if it’s a child custody case, a family member should write how much the children mean to the referral.

The conclusion should summarize the purpose of the letter and he or she should write his or her contact details (phone and email) in case the court wants to follow up on any of the information offered in the letter.

It is important to remember that a letter of recommendation for a duress defendant will be an official document in court. So make sure it looks professional and the content is what you think is true.

First you need to identify yourself. This should be done in the upper left corner of the page. Enter your name and residential address in the first three lines of this page.

It is also mandatory to indicate when this letter was written and sent. Skip two lines after your name and address, then enter the current date. Usually, the default is to print the month name and then enter the numeric calendar date and year.

In some cases, a DUI defendant’s attorney may request to include a subject with the case number or omit the subject entirely. For this example, we’ll assume a somewhat informal topic. Report the subject two lines below the date. If you are using this form as a template, enter the respondent’s name on the blank line.

The salutation begins your real letter. Again, you should consult with the defendant or his or her attorney. In this example, we will use a formal greeting. The salutation should be placed two lines below the subject above. If there is no subject, it should be placed two lines below the date.

The introduction should consist of one or two statements. These statements must include the purpose of this document, the name of the defendant in the DUI, your relationship to the defendant in the DUI, and how long you have known the defendant in the DUI as such. You may want to include a statement that explains his or her character in some way.

The contents of the body will serve as support for the DUI defendant. After all, the recipient(s) of this letter will most likely only know the DUI defendant as a result of and in connection with the DUI offense. The content of this letter will expand on this point of view and point out some positive qualities of the respondent. Due to the nature of the DUI offense, you may want to discuss the observed cause and effect of the defendant’s behavior and what he or she will do about it. For example, the respondent may have had some extremely difficult professional or personal difficulties, such as the death of a close family member. If the DUI defendant has mentioned seeking help for a substance abuse problem, be sure to state that intent. Be sure to also state your faith in the DUI defendant’s ability to overcome this event.

The last paragraph of this letter should repeat the introduction with a slightly more personal touch. Be sure to mention (in some way) how you want the recipient to react to this letter. Remember that you will eventually want to finish the letter with a signature from the respondent.

You must identify yourself with your three names and residential address in the upper left corner of the document you are working on. This area should be presented in the same way as an envelope and should include your residential address. Write your full name on the first line, your street address on the second line, and your city/state/zip code on the third line

In some cases, it’s a good idea to include a theme. A simple one stating the name of the trusted parent/guardian and/or the case number is sufficient.

Character Reference Letters And Letters Of Recommendation

The opening paragraph of this letter of recommendation will serve a specific purpose. State who you are writing this letter to, how you know the person you are recommending, and how long you have known them. When this task is completed, make a statement to recommend that person take custody of the affected minor or child.

The next paragraph will be the heart of the letter you are writing. You should be sure to include observations that you have made that indicate that a reliable parent/guardian will be a positive factor in the life of the minor or child. If there is anything the parent/guardian is known for in their community that demonstrates his or her effectiveness as a positive force (eg volunteer work, membership, etc.), mention that as well. There should be at least two to three statements here. Note that this part of the letter can be as long as you like. If there are any questions about this content and its length, you can consult the parent/guardian or his or her attorney.

The final paragraph should restate your initial statement and include your desire for this letter
